And yes, for all you idiots out there, who start up with your sweaty exclamations about, "Didn't you see the planes hit the towers!" or "If YOUR kids were in the WTC you wouldn't think this way....." or "You were probably hiding under you bed during the terrorist attack.... coward, leave America. You're not a REAL American."

Well, I did see all that. I wasn't hiding under my bed. I am a REAL American. And yes, someone I am acquainted with, died in the WTC attacks.

In fact, as a card carrying member of the NRA, I was actually cleaning one of my rifles as I watched the attacks on T.V. on 9-11-01.

Dear Ms. Sarandon, First, I respect your views, and I don't think it's cool that you should get cursed at for stating your/any opinion. I, personally, feel that we're not going to war at all. At the most, we'll have a confrontation just like the first one under the other Bush. We'll have a confrontation, a few lives will be lost, a fake treaty will be signed, we'll pull out of Iraq and laugh at the headlines that'll say,"Hussien cliams victory- again". The sole reason why I feel this will happen is becuase, to me , "It's all about the money, religion is the tool". What better way for the U.S. to gain nation control over it's diverse people(remember 1/3 was DEM, 1/3 was REP, 1/3 wasLIB) than to install fear into the hearts of its' citizens. By allowing religous extremists to enter into the country and destroy, what was supposed to be a couple of floors, into a couple of buildings. True, the gov't. didn't know when it was going to happen, but they did know it was going to happen.To top it all off, business is now good on both sides of the law, between both the U.S. and Iraq (Al-Quaeda/Al-Qada). If you remember the news coverage of the miles of heroine plantations being destroyed by the U.S. bombings, this means the drug businesses can now make a bigger profit than before. And what better way for the U.S. and the Al-Qeada/Al-Qada to restore business than to eliminate the Taliban. The same group that made such a pest of itself all throughout the 90s, with the bombings of the NAFTA buildings, both in the U.S. and in Africa, the gunning down of the U.S, military team, "Black Hawk", and finally, the sinking of the USS Cole. So now business is restored, no more administrations turning the tables around with the closing of the military bases, no more factory closings to allow more businesses to enter an area to employ more people and at the same time remove cater to the factory owners, no more taxing the rich and giving the middle class a break, no more any thing, and the United States citizens of America will be greatful, because they think the "real threat" is being taken care of. If you're wondering where all this comes into play with your cause, it might not. Then again, it might be the monkey to the wrench. I don't know, but what I can tell you is what I said before. The BALLS on them. You know what kind of EGO these people must have to send a letter to the president, thinking that the weight of their names could matter one bit in a case of national security?

I see right through their anti-war stance, and most intelligent, perceptive people can as well. Their position is there SOLELY to make these folks feel better about themselves. It's a 'Holier than Thou' stance. "Look, see, I'm a peaceful person and therefore a more 'moral' person than you, because you want war. And war is not necessary under any circumstance in my utopian, money-filled, worry-free world. See how superior we are to everyone else. Are you watching us?"

I can see right through the facade because the position itself is completely irrational. Can a person truly be that blind? Former Iraqi Defense employees have come on American TV to assure us that Hussein will be nuclear-capable within a couple of years. U.S. intelligence confirms this. The political scientists have no doubt that he is bent on using them, why should we? Hussein's track record of human rights abuses and his displayed readiness to exterminate his own countrymen is a great clue that he has absolutely NO regard for human life. He has searched for and stockpiled chemical and biological weapons throughout his reign. What do the stars think he wants to do with these things? Are they able to draw parallels between anything or are they only consumed with their own image? Hussein is a man who WANTS to bring about 'Armageddon' and WILL if given any room to breath. With all of this, still, the most scary facet about the whole scenario is the religious aspect. Fundamentalism is synonymous with Fatalism, meaning that - a fundamentalist (be they Christian, Jew or Muslim) irrationally believes that all and everything that happens is guided by God's hand, and if 'world matters' escalate to the brink of chemical or nuclear war, then so be it - It is god's will. (We almost witnessed this happen between India and Pakistan recently. Whew....close one). People like Hussein CAN NOT see that it is their own hands guiding their actions, so they bear no responsibility for the outcomes. Think about the fatalistic mindset. It's 'suicide' for the individual who bears it, but for a dictator to have it, it's potential 'genocide'.

This madman's regime needs to be ousted immediately. It's been ten years coming, but, the key thing is......it's still NOT TOO LATE. Every moment that he is left in power increases the likelihood of large-scale atrocity in the region, or here back at home. That's where the irrational, anti-war folks would like to let it lead. Above the documented proof of weapons possession, they would like us to have a 'more-major' justification to 'roll'. How about the complete annihilation of Israel, Syria, Turkey or Kuwait? Would that be justification enough to step in?? The rational mind understands that the sacrifice of a few thousand servicemen now, as unconscionable as that may seem, is easily outweighed by the loss of MILLIONS later. It's simple math and a clearly executable preventive medicine. And, our losses would never rise to the thousands because most of the war would be delivered by air strikes. In this post-9/11 world, all pimples must be crushed before they turn into boils and pop. If not, our way of life here may very well disappear over night. How would you feel about a decade-long police state enforced because of a security lapse which resulted in loss of the whole city of Chicago? Or how about hearing on the news about the demise of both the Israeli and Palestinian people?

If one has NO grasp of history or of political science, they can not see trends or relationships in the world theater, and aren't able to fathom how EASILY things can spiral out of control (Look at World War 1). The movie stars live in a world of mere superficiality and appearances. They dare not contemplate that something truly catastrophic can occur in the near future. "Brush it aside and the problem will go away on its own. At least, we look peaceful in the fans' eyes." But, catastrophe can and WILL happen. It's just a matter of where and when. And since we're the biggest motorbike in the shed, we MUST take every effort - at least seeking to contain it. The fact of the matter is that 9/11 was a wake up call to the already present fact that terrorism and tyrannical agression have become dramatically easier due to modern technology, and that these weapons of mass destruction are popping up in the hands of some very irresponsible people (Pakistan, N. Korea). The unreasonable ask, "What about a nation's sovereignty? How would we like it if a country came onto our shore and told us how to run the show?" To them, I answer that dudes like Hussein have violated some very basis rules of the game and have effectively FORFEITED their national sovereignty. Hussein is like a child with a book of matches. You tell the kid to put down the matches or else he'll burn himself. He doesn't heed your warning and continues to strike one after another. After a while you get tired of his insistence, and begin thinking more about the 'whole house' and everyone else that is in it. The child has been diagnosed with several paranoid, delusionary disorders, and you realize.... These matches must be dislodged from the kid's hands before he achieves BURNING EVERYONE. Unlike Vietnam, an antiwar stance now is completely irrational and those bearing one need to ask themselves what their real psychological motives are. It's hard to even recognize such stupidity when its embraced. We MUST go in now, remove the regime and at least try to establish a democracy. Then, hope that 'democracy by example' spreads in the region, sorta like the 'domino theory' somewhat predicted the spread of communism in the far east. Wake up Ms. Sarandon.

Susan, you are absolutely right. We should not go to war in Iraq. We should have let Suddam invade Kuwait, overtake it, and kill there regime in the early 90’s. This way they could be killing each other in the Middle East and we could sit back and enjoy watching. Of course as long as the gas was still being pumped to our SUV’s, sports cars, and the like.

I am truly interested in how “America” is killing all the people in Iraq. First of all, some people die of disease as tragic as it is, even happens here. Second of all, I believe the person responsible for most of the deaths in Iraq is there so called leader. Thirdly, why does every Muslim I speak to hate that guy and despises what he represents?

Last and of course I am a proud Texan. I support our military. If these young men and women do go to war, you better support them even if you don’t support our government. It’s your freedom they fight for. I better never see someone disgrace one of our military people, otherwise they will not only have to deal with that person, but me too. And for the protest you attend, how can you let someone have a sign that equates Bush, Sharon, and Hitler to the axis of evil. If I may, I would suggest that you and your associates could do a great service for this country by not making any more films that glorify war and violence.

This is something I am sure is within your capabilitity and that of other actors, if you joined together and said no to movies that brutal. It seems rather odd to me that on the other 418 days since this cowardly mission was carried out by these insane radicals, you and the few others like you are not at all interested in making sure that the blood of innocent Americans is never spilled again at the whim of these extremist animals simply because we cherish Mankind’s right to be free.

You and the rest of the anti-war crowd are obviously young, naïve, uneducated and/or truly anti-America based on the views I read here and on other liberal forums. The history of Mankind from the beginning of time through present day proves that the only way in which peace was found between two entities at war was found was through the complete annihilation of one side by the other. Only then was there lasting peace. You can not negotiate peace when one side (arabs) is being run by an insane, deceptive, cruel religion/government that calls for the destruction of the principles and ideas that have made the USA the world’s only remaining super power. I just love it when I read about people that say "The Bush administration and it`s Gestapo tactics" or "The destruction of the constitution" First off what part is being violated? Good job playing a mother that lost a child in Moonlight Mile. I lost my only daughter at 20 yrs. old in a car accident and thought you truly showed the anger and the pain quite well - a pain that will never go away. I especially like the scene throwing the books in the fire which was probably far more therapeutic than me trying to read some of them making me more depressed.

I'm not sure who reads these...but I heard on a biography that Susan Sarandon has endometriosis. I too have the painful, yet little-known disease. There are no spokeswomen for endometriosis. The only 'cure' for it is a full hysterectomy, and that doesn't always mean it's completely gone. I belong to the WebMD support group for women with endometriosis, and on a message board post someone wrote that it would be great to have someone like Susan Sarandon to be a spokeswoman. So, if it is at all possible, or if someone knows how to contact her to find out if she would like to, please post a message on the WebMD message board for Endometriosis support for women.

Do you ever wonder what kind of remarkable coincidence is responsible for Hollywood's near-unanimous liberalism? How can it be that almost all directors, producers and actors hail from the political left -- even those who don't have a clue about politics?

Could it be something in the water out there? Could it be that they all happen to be "enlightened"? Could it be their wealth-induced guilt (I can barely conceive of the enormity of their hypocrisy in constantly bashing capitalism while raking in their millions)? Could it be that their artsy fartsy idealism blinds them to reality? Could it be that they want to be taken seriously in real life by Eastern liberal intellectuals because their jobs require them to playact in fantasyland? Could it be that they all just happen to be overflowing with compassion? Could it be peer pressure and their craving of one another's approval? Could it be that their immoral lifestyle will not accommodate a conservative world view?

Regardless, it is clear that the overwhelming majority of the Tinseltown elite march in lockstep on political matters and that those who don't are ostracized and shunned, if not outright blacklisted. Certain others are obviously afraid to come out of the closet for fear of reprisal.

All of this leads inescapably to the conclusion that the Hollywood left, by and large, cannot possess those attributes most proudly claimed by liberals: independence of thought, open-mindedness and tolerance. If they were truly the independent thinkers liberals fashion themselves to be, it is highly unlikely they would all share the same political, cultural and social beliefs. And if they were as open-minded and tolerant as leftists purport to be, they would not, by employing the intimidation tactics they often decry as McCarthyism, scare into silence that small cadre of conservatives lurking in the shadows.

Do you think I'm overstating the case? If so, how do you explain what happened to actress Sharon Lawrence after her photo appeared in People magazine on a page showcasing high-profile Republicans, including George W. Bush?

According to an article in the Hollywood Reporter, Lawrence "was dogged by hate mail and unfriendly questions from producers about her political views." This prompted Lawrence, a committed Democrat, to observe: "If one is even perceived to be a Republican in Hollywood, there can be an excluding reaction, and people genuinely resent you." So we have it from the mouth of a self-professed Donkey.

That same Hollywood Reporter piece argued that since the Sept. 11 attacks, Hollywood has taken "a right turn," conservatives "are finally coming out of the closet" and "Hollywood is finally becoming a two party town."

Well, there may be pockets of conservative progress there -- the always-insightful film critic and radio host Michael Medved even concedes the point -- but there's no question that liberals are still dominant beyond measure.

The politically astute Cher, for example, recently affirmed her earlier statement that if Bush were elected, American minorities and women wouldn't "have one f---ing right left." A month rarely goes by without Alec Baldwin railing against us Neanderthals on the right. And just this week in Scotland, actress Susan Sarandon, offered this profound social commentary regarding America's reaction to Sept. 11: "We're not supposed to talk about how there might have been something leading up to this, that it could have been prevented or that our actions have ramifications. We're living in a lock-down in terms of information and a certain point of view, and if you challenge that point of view, you're anti-American."

No, Susan, it's not your dissent that leads people to wonder if you're anti-American. It's your inane and outrageously offensive implication that America's actions in some way brought on the attacks and that we might have prevented them had we acted differently. (Isn't Sarandon's complaint about being silenced dripping with irony considering Hollywood's general treatment of conservatives? These people are simply too self-absorbed to recognize their double standards.)

For those who place hope in Hollywood's transformation to political sanity because of the reported conservatism of some of its newcomers, don't get too sanguine. Youngsters of the stripe of Leonardo DiCaprio remain very much in the forefront. He routinely lambasts the United States for being the world's biggest polluter and harangues President Bush to forfeit our sovereignty to the Kyoto Treaty. No, my friends, mindlessness is not waning on Sunset Boulevard.

Until Hollywood hotshots demonstrate some modicum of the diversity of thought they sanctimoniously demand of others, they will not and do not deserve to be taken seriously.

He may not be perfect, but he is for darn sure better than the last piece of garbage we had for President. What did he EVER do when the World Trade Center was bombed the first time? I am appalled that since moving to Texas my daughter is unable to get her diabetic test strips funded thru medicaid and rationed on her other supplies. It was never like this in Seattle.
